What was up with the mistletoe, anyway? Or do these things just happen to you guys?
(I'm not telling how I got rid of it, so don't bother asking)

Bugs is being good, except he keeps sneaking out of my room to follow people around. Mostly Amy. I think cats get jealous of babies. My cousin's cat did the same thing to her for a year after her kid was born.
I admit I kinda sorta mighta been looking in backstreets and alleys for stray cats when I found him... College dorms wouldn't allow pets. I was deprived and stuff.

I was wondering, though... ok, the real reason for this post is to ask about magic. I know some of you have learned it. So how's it work and is it tough to learn?

That cat is so adorable. I must smell like catnip to him or something. It'd be weird if he was jealous of Eli, Thorns isn't. She kinda ignores him, actually.

Cats: Yes, Ember isn't very fond of Ashlyn and Eli, though she mostly just avoids them. She's never been all that fond of children. I'm not sure it's out of jealousy though. I think she's kind of scared of them.

Magic: It takes about a week of serious study (as in most of your waking hours are devoted to study in one form or another). You have to find a teacher though.

Where would I find a teacher? Also, I kind of just want to learn about how it works first. It seems pretty wild to jump right into it (says the girl who started her refugee career by being turned into a raven).

If you want to study that sort of thing, I would recommend learning from Merlin or Yen Sid who probably have the best comprehensive approach.

Less so than you would think. Mostly they're made of cartilage, so they're pretty bendy. I'm really clumsy, and Ashlyn's fine.

All of the teachers have different teaching styles so it really depends on who you go to.

That was the first time we got mistletoe. Weird shit like that happens a lot, though.

In regards to magic, it... kind of varies depending on who you talk to? Like Ari said, the teachers all have different styles of teaching and explaining things, and the same goes for us. So if you wanna see some tl'dr about how I view magic, feel free to ask! Or you could just go to one of the teachers and get some formal training. Whichever you prefer!

Here let me give you some of my personal opinions anyway Also, the level of difficulty depends on what spell it is, and what your personal affinity to it is. Like, I learned the Thunder and Fire spells easily enough, but Aero in particular is harder for me. It just... depends on who you are, your affinity with the spells, and how your teacher introduces you to it, I guess.

I've always liked Thunder, but isn't there a chance you could lose control and zap yourself while you're learning? I get the feeling it'd be like learning to drive a car if the car electrocuted you the first time you bumped a curb.

Yeah, there's always that chance. Even more so if you're learning from the Cheshire Cat, I hear, but last I heard Wonderland fell to Darkness and I'm not complaining about it, either. But most magic teachers will make you take it slow at first, so you don't accidentally kill yourself. Yen Sid, for example, teaches magical theory before letting you actually try the spell out. Between chores, of course. And when I was with Merlin, he dove right into spellweaving, but started with just sparks before working up to an actual bolt of lightning.

Merlin sounds like what I'd want, really. I don't need the whole textbook of magical theory in my head. It'd confuse me, I just know. I learn best when you tell me how something works without bothering to tell me why... It's simple that way.

Hey, this is a dumb question since I do wanna learn magic, but do you guys really just let every newbie jump in like this if they ask? It's kind of an "ok, have fun, not our fault if you die" attitude, isn't it?

Pretty much, yeah? But we do look out for each other, especially the new kids if they need help! A refugee's specialty is surviving, though, so no worries. Just don't go taking a Behemoth on anytime soon and you should be good!
