An announcement, if you would be so kind.

As I said in my last post, although I haven't been particularly active of late, I have kept a watchful eye on the game, and I have been keeping many former players up to date on the events. I've asked their opinions on things, and they've gladly given them. With their help, I have made a decision regarding World Refugees' final ending. And to put it simply, we've all chosen to make the trolling from Rakath's end not so trolly.

Yes, this means Lavos is now canon. Everyone died in a grand battle, and a young Xehanort was watching up until the moment the last Refugee and Keyblade Master from our timeline fell to the ground, and then he reset everything to the way it should be. We meddled, and now we've been taken out of the picture, spread throughout the worlds so that we may never meet and find another chance to ruin Xehanort's plans. There will be no arguing this. As a mod, with the support of the players, I have chosen this to be the official ending for World Refugees: Final Mix.

And before you say something like, "They're not in the game anymore; their opinions don't matter," I just want to say - they are still friends. They are still veterans of the game. They do matter, active in this game or not. And if two of the remaining four have the right to decide how this game closes in lieu of a mod-run plot, so do they.

Finish whatever you're doing. I won't stop you. But you have the right to know what has been chosen as the game's official end, and the thing going on now, run by Mabry and Robin, is not it.

And before you ask, no, I am not trolling again.

It's true that this game deserves an epic ending. And to be honest with you all, your mods had plans for a good, epic endgame, and it wasn't Jagannatha. We were planning it for months and months, and we had everything outlined and set in a schedule and everything. I'll tell you the details as well as I can now, just so you will all know that we didn't plan to leave you hanging like that. So let me weave you a story of what could have been, but was not...

The things with Jagannatha and his plans to lock away the Denizens of Light were part of the plan. Master Xehanort was working with him to do this, but he was never truly working for him. As one would expect, Xehanort had some plans of his own in the works. Members of the Academy of Shadows may recall that Xehanort helped Maleficent out in a time of need? When she asked what he would like in compensation, at first, he didn't ask for anything. Later on, he came back to request her assistance in creating a certain tool - a phylactery. With this, he would no longer require a younger vessel, like he had during the events of Birth by Sleep. With this, he could live as long as he needed in order to accomplish his plans.

During the fight against Jagannatha and his Keybearers, Xehanort was among the enemies for our young Keybearers to face. Though he gave a good fight, he was defeated and thought to be gone for good. While the Refugees were winding down from that, Yen Sid and Mickey held a Mark of Mastery exam for Riku, Sora, Kairi, Terra, and Ventus. Soon after, unbeknownst to our protagonists, Xehanort returned thanks to his foresight in creating a phylactery, and immediately launched his plans.

Not all of it could be accomplished on his own, however; wherever he went, he would immediately be suspect. And so, he presented Rakath with a paid contract, and Hex another offering a Keyblade, in which they were to steal the Cornerstones of Light and Darkness respectively from their safekeepers - the King and Queen of Disney Castle, and Maleficent and her Academy. Once those were delivered, they were taken with the Cornerstone of Twilight to the empty world that was Alexandria after the battles against Chernabog and Jagannatha.

The next step was to forge a link between the Cornerstones. So Xehanort, using himself as a starting point, dove into his heart and used his power of Light and Darkness together to reach out to the Cornerstone of Twilight. When the connection was made, he reached for the Cornerstone of Light with the Light in his heart, repeating the process a third time for the Cornerstone of Darkness with his own Darkness. The power of the Cornerstones was vast, and it took time to gain full control over each one, and all three at once. Alexandria was the next target, being a world with no heart, and Xehanort filled that emptiness with the combined power of the Cornerstones. At that point, Alexandria was used as a sort of radio tower, used to transmit the Cornerstones' power directly into the hearts of the worlds, and thereafter into the hearts of those on those worlds. That power took the Light and Darkness in their hearts and forcefully made them equal, removing or adding Light or Darkness as needed. This way, the worlds would be welcomed into an era of peace, achieved through complete balance, wherein Denizens of Light, Darkness, and Twilight (or Nothingness) could all live together without war. It was a form a mind control, executed through the heart. Only Keybearers, travelers by Gummi ship or Corridor, or those protected by a Reflect or Barrier charm were unaffected. For travelers, this could change the instant they stepped on-world.

The connection was to be broken by the Keybearers, using their keys to unlock everyone's true hearts, but they could have been helped by some of the others. Those closer to Twilight/Nothing would be easiest to break out of the spell, as well as those on a world close to the Realm of Nothingness, such as Twilight Town or The World That Never Was. As the connections began to weaken and break, it became easier to gain access to the hearts of the worlds, and they were released one by one until together, they surged up against the controlling power and shattered its influence. As one, they brought the Keybearers and their allies to face Xehanort, world spirits standing beside them to help in the fight. Xehanort, still connected to the Cornerstones, started to spout things about the balance of Light and Darkness, and the final battle began.

A few of the world spirits, though useless in a direct fight, still found a way to help: they could sense Xehanort's phylactery. They caught the attention of some Refugees, taking them to the location and helping them find it. Once found, it was destroyed, and at that moment, Xehanort felt something change. His control over the Cornerstones wavered, but he poured more of his will into them, and the power warped and twisted his body into something unrecognizable. This was the final leg, and the entirety of the Realms of Light, Darkness, and Nothingness alike rose against him, all disdainful of having their natures forcibly changed. Their power backed that of the Keybearers, who worked together in harmony to destroy him once and for all.

But when Xehanort was gone, something unexpected happened. The magic from the Cornerstones, now unrestrained, went wild, raging through the gathered hearts before the world spirits could get it back under control. Few were harmed or injured, but many were changed in that instant, and then the Light, Darkness, and Twilight was forced back into the Cornerstones. The spirits of worlds send a genuine thank you to everyone who helped, and then everything fades away.

Sora, Riku, and Kairi all wake up on their beach in Destiny Islands. Aqua, Ven, and Terra open their eyes to see the stars from the courtyard of the Land of Departure. Roxas and Namine awake to white walls and sketches in Twilight Town. King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy find themselves in the gardens of Disney Castle.

And the Refugees wake up somewhere that is unfamiliar, but feels like they've known the place for years. The landscape shifts slightly in every moment, and nothing is ever in the same place twice. There are Fae running wild, living in harmony with humans. There are dragons living in solitude among icy glaciers. There is a familiar sound as a train rolls into a more shady locale. There are festivals dedicated to proving that no one is all good or evil, to knowing that balance is good but not always perfect. There are mountains that sing, holes in the ground that breathe chaos, schools of magic, crystals that hide the truth from no one, caves of dreams, waters that dance, fogs that obscure the obvious but reveal the hidden, and gardens built for inspiration and memories, but never mourning.

They awake on a new world, built from the rampant magic of the Cornerstones and the hearts of the Refugees themselves. It is called Wanderer's Refuge, and it will always be a sanctuary for the lost.

There you have it, Refugees. I won't give excuses. But I will give you the only explanation we have for dropping off at the conclusion of Jagannatha's storyline: as mods, we were discouraged. Activity was abysmal, and it wasn't entirely the fault of the players or the mods. Sometimes, it just happens, and no one in particular is to blame. So, despite our efforts to get things going again, we decided by the end of things with Jagannatha, our baby, the plot we'd been excited about, wasn't worth pursuing if so few were interested anymore. Still, I wanted to let you guys see what we had planned.

But as I said, that plotline was abandoned, and Lavos is now canon. If you'd like to see the contributions for this ending, here are some: from Rakath, Ari, me, Chase, and Rakath again. None of these are necessarily canon, but each are a different take on it.

There's just one more thing before I bring this post to a close. I just want to say that, even though we don't all keep in contact, even though some of us have long since moved on, I want you all to know that I'll remember you. We've spent five years together. That's nothing to sneeze at. Maybe we weren't all particularly close, but everyone in this game has had an impact on someone else's life, and that's not a bad thing. We've made good friends, and hopefully those bonds will continue to thrive, even now. Our destinies may branch out from here, and we may never speak or see each other again, but we'll always share the same sky, and we'll always see the same stars. Because of that, and because of our time here, we will always be connected. I hope all of you remember that, because for many of us, it all started here, with pictures of mysterious shadow men cropping up in tabloids.

Happy New Year, World Refugees, and good luck to you, wherever you go. Goodbye.

We have two new Dreamwidth accounts for WR:

Journal comm
Log comm

I'm leaving OOC and the mod journal here for now, but I'll move them over if requested enough. Also not importing anything; I liked Song's suggestion that we use the empty comm as an incentive to post.

I will be trying to make State of the Game posts here on LJ to make it easier to keep up since community crossposting is not a thing there yet (and may never be). Posts in the DW community can be crossposted manually if you guys want to do that, but it's not a requirement by any means, and you don't need a Dreamwidth journal to be able to post comments or anything there.

For interested parties, however, you can still make a DW journal without an invite code if you haven't already. If this ends before you can claim a journal and you want one, let me know and I'll find you an invite.

If you have any questions/concerns about this, please leave a comment and I'll get to it ASAP.

THAT IS ALL FOR NOW, but I will be back when I have a recap for you.

Ray is now a mod.

Okay, guys, I'm gonna get right down to business. Should we move the game to Dreamwidth?

Yes, I know the game is slow right now and kind of at a standstill as Real Life and other things take up all of our time and attention, but LJ's issues don't seem to be getting fixed. I'm constantly hearing about LJ going down, and at least one of the players here has mentioned it getting in the way of posting. And I know there is still a plot in the works, though I think it has been derailed for the moment by the aforementioned Real Life.

Community importing works fine over there, or we could just leave it all here for archives or something and start anew - that is, if we move. So I ask again: do you think we should move?

Star Market has been delayed until next weekend due to travel issues.

On the subject of travel, things will be getting easier from now on. Portals are much more reliable, only taking their users to a random world once a day, or maybe a few times more. Warp Gummis are more or less functioning again, but not reliably. Sometimes they might send you too far, sometimes not far enough; other times, they just won't work at all, and you've only got one chance before it stops for the next day or two. Heartless ships are thinning out in Gummi space, as well.

Star Market sends its most sincere apologies for the inconvenience. Patrons will be receiving free Truth of Heart crystals and Sciers upon arrival, along with a gift certificate for a small token valued at 150 munny - or more, should you provide the excess. Merchants have agreed to allow the certificate use at all of their shops.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
In the wake of Maleficent's ritual, portals suddenly appear everywhere, leaving Refugees and friends scattered throughout the worlds once more.

where you'll be headed )

Notes

Transportation is still available, but difficult. Warp Gummis are disabled at this time, however, and multitudes of Heartless are hanging out in Gummi space, eagerly awaiting their chance to delay you. So your trip will be longer, and much more interesting than usual.

Portals are going crazy. Anyone with access to portals may try to use them, but will not get to their destination easily; more often than not, they will be transported to a random world instead. And forget about hopping from world to world to world until you eventually get it right, dudes. Once a day is the limit.

Questions, anyone?

Announcements for this year's Star Market are sent out today, to be held on the weekend of September 9th in Wanderer's Refuge. Enclosed is an informative note saying that most of the Market's activities will be taking place in the world's Labyrinth City, as well as a request asking attendees to please avoid the local area referred to as the Veil, as Star Market workers will not be held responsible for any... unfortunate mishaps.

Methinks this has gone on long enough, yes?

Okay, the truth is that this event was not supposed to take anywhere near as long as it has been taking. And yes, part of the reason it's taken so long is because of the DDOS attacks, but... I dunno, guys, I think we can officially give these logs the Paris Curse stamp because they are just not going anywhere.

We can still attempt to finish threads, though; a few of them are still going fairly strong, so don't be disheartened by this! But we know that a lot of you have really nothing to do while we've been waiting for these things to resolve themselves, and that just isn't how a game should be played.

But we're going to go ahead and call the Jagannatha event finished so everyone can move forward from this. So this will also be serving as your handwave summary post of what happened.

Paris Curse: The First Darkness Strikes Back )

SO YEAH.

And, not to end this on a sour note, but... given the way the game has been going lately, and the state of this last event in particular, we are going to go ahead and cancel the major remaining mod-driven plot until further notice. Player plots are still totally awesome, however, and are always encouraged. Guys, if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to bring them up to us. We're interested, and I'm sure the rest of the playerbase will be, too. :)

ANY QUESTIONS?
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
Since the opening of the Door has been taking a while, we've gone ahead and posted the final battle with Jagannatha.

Anyone and everyone can take part in this, or just have yourself taken elsewhere by the Light for the duration of the battle.

We still only have one volunteer for NPCing the Dark Keybearers, so if anyone else wants in on that, now's your time to do it. We don't have any pre-arranged characterizations written for them, so you have freedom with that, and you'll be free to use the WR NPC account, if you like.

Regarding the now-backlogged, er, logs: please don't leave them abandoned simply because we've posted the final leg of this event. No one likes a Paris Curse, and where's the fun in not playing things out, anyway?

If you have any questions regarding this log, please leave a comment here and we'll answer as best we can.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
Option 2 pretty much won the vote. While there will be no new logs posted until the people in Alexandria are freed, we've got tags for you guys in all the places that it matters.

Here we have Jagannatha being evil. Anyone outside of Alexandria can jump in here, if you like.

And here's Sora being a derp (though it's totally justified this time). Chernabog's raging is in this tag, so if anyone wants to do some chaotic fighting, this is where to do it.

Aaaaand the Door to Light and its guardian.

Also, we may not be posting the final log for this event yet, but being prepared is good, too. So! Those NPC volunteers we mentioned in Option 3? We're asking for them now. If anyone wants to play one of the Dark Keyblade wielders from Jagannatha's tag, comment here to tell us. We'd like to have at least five Key Bearers running about for the upcoming log, and we've got one volunteer already. And you'll be free to customize him or her as you wish, so don't be afraid to have fun with it!

Also, we'll be freeing up WR's NPC account for tagging with these guys. Again, please leave a comment here telling us you're interesting in playing an NPC and if you want to use the NPC account, and we'll get you the information.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
First off, let us begin with an apology. This event was not supposed to last this long by any means, and we're sorry for that. We understand that part of the fault lies with us mods, and part of the fault lies with the fact that everyone here has a Real Life outside of the game, but we really meant for this to be over much sooner than it will be.

That said, we have come here today asking for opinions. There are a couple of different options we can go with, but we don't want to make a move without consulting you guys first, since it will obviously affect everyone in the community. But we need to get this plot moving. We certainly don't want to see the logs get eternally Paris Cursed, but at this point it's like pulling teeth, and a good bit of you don't even have anything to do in the meantime.

So here we are, with the options.

Option 1
Leave everything as is

This being where we're at right this moment, we're not too fond of this particular course of action. But if this is what you would prefer, tell us, and we'll go with it.

Option 2
Fast-forward the Sora rescue and find the Door to Light

Skipping a few tags to save some time, Heartless and Nobodies will stand defeated and Sora released be the dungeon crawlers lower-level castle team in Alexandria. Meanwhile, the Princesses of Heart and their Allies are closing in on the Door to Light, where a couple of special guards will be standing in their way. The lower-level team may or may not join up with the upper level team. Outside the castle, Chernabog makes his displeasure well known and starts on the offensive.

Jagannatha and Hex's battle escalates and will be transported to a new area, one more suited to battle. Anyone outside of Alexandria would be free to join the fun, supporting whichever side you might like.

The Denizens of Light will still be in Alexandria at this point, we'd just be skipping ahead to a more interesting point before you're all released, and we'll go from there.

Option 3
Skip everything else and go straight to the final battle

The Denizens of Light are free from the shroud of Darkness encircling Alexandria. How did it happen? That's up for discussion with this post. Either Hex's distracting/depowering Jagannatha will collapse the immense Darkness around the false world, or the opening of the Door to Light will do it. Either way, everyone will be free to retaliate.

The final battle will be taking place in the same world mentioned in Option 2. We'll have to ask for volunteers to play generic NPCs - about five NPCs total should suffice, but more can be added as requested - because Jagannatha will not be fighting alone. Also, it'll add a little excitement if someone other than just mods managed this, no?

You should also feel free to suggest your own solutions. If enough people support it, we'll go with it. Whatever we end up doing, guys, we just want to speed things up. Like we said, this event was never supposed to be this long, and we're sorry. So let's just try to avoid Paris Cursing everything, and get on with the plot, yeah?

Tell us what you guys think should happen, and we'll get right on it. And if we end up posting new logs, we'll make sure to tell you guys here on the main community.

So yeah. Discussion is go.

Just so you guys know, there is a thread for the castle invasion here. This applies to everyone trapped in Alexandria.

For action happening outside of Alexndria, go here. If the Academy or any one else not trapped in Alexandria is going to have a go at Jagannatha, this would be where to do it.

Questions? PM, IM or I'm lurking around chat.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
As of now, anyone who was not on the list of exceptions can no longer post to the community. There is a log for you folks here.

Those of you that are are free to do what you like - except go to Alexandria, where everyone else will be trapped until they find a way out.

Edit: There is now a thread in the Alexandria log for those that were left behind. You can find that here.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
Shortly after Jagannatha's post, people start to disappear. It isn't fast, and it certainly isn't quiet, but there is no doubt about what is happening. One by one, Darkness appears at a person's feet. It pulls them in, and despite any efforts to help, it takes them, and it isn't giving them back. By Sunday morning, everyone is gone.

OOC notes: You won't all be disappearing at once. As we said, it is a gradual thing. But once the Darkness takes you, you're gone. No more posting until we give the go-ahead. Of course, that isn't to say you can't post before you vanish.

There are a few exceptions to who has been taken, however: Maleficent and Elaine*, Hex, Seph, and Lesley/Gonzo/whomever he happens to be at the moment.

*Maleficent's students may be included in this list as well, but Jagannatha will only tolerate the Shadows. If you are not your Shadow when the time comes for the Darkness to take you, it will take you.

Edit: Per chat encouragement, we now have a log for all of your disappearing act needs!

Game Updates

The Miasma has ceased in its advances. But as Jagannatha forewarned, the effects - illness, hallucinations, Reverse Cure, etc. - remain. They simply do not get worse.

The number of Heartless also stop growing, but they seem to be getting smarter, more cunning in their attacks.

Game Updates

Beast's Castle, Enchanted Dominion, and Dwarf Woodlands reappear on the Gummi map this week, but just as with the other returning worlds, this is not cause for celebration. Like all the others, these worlds are horrifying shadows of what they used to be.

The Miasma is appearing in waterways all over the multiverse. Fish and other sea-dwellers are dying left and right, and it seems that land-dwellers will not be far behind.

Stronger monsters and Heartless are appearing throughout the worlds, and they're getting bolder. Whereas they used to be relatively cautious about entering towns and cities, knowing the threat of the worlds' defenders, they now throw themselves into the streets, markets, and buildings within. Casualties and deaths soar.

The hallucinations experienced by mages are becoming much more realistic and are an almost constant presence to their victims.

Light mages are quickly becoming too ill to be of any use. Fevers are high, and while healers and doctors are having trouble locating the reasons behind this surge in illness, they recommend sufferers to stay at home and rest. Skilled mages may sense the Darkness of the Miasma attacking their systems, drastically weakening them.

Reverse Cure has replaced the spells of the normal Cure tree. Alarms go up among the healers, and all are warned not to use magic, no matter how badly a person might be hurt.

Game Updates

Agrabah reappears on the Gummi map. This is not cause for celebration, however, as any visitors will immediately see: the world came back from Darkness, horribly scarred. Heartless are everywhere, and what people remain are either terrified and doing all they can to simply survive, or are causing some of that terror and wreaking havoc alongside the Heartless. Dark clouds constantly loom overhead, draping all in shadow. The same goes for Destiny Islands.

Hallucinations are becoming more common, especially among Light mages (defined here) and, sometimes, among non-magic folk.

Light mages are feeling under the weather, far more so than just a little fatigue should cause. Many are succumbing to various illnesses, be it infection, cold, or worse. Healers face new problems entirely, with their Cure spells backfiring and hurting instead of healing. Reverse Cure will not happen too often when casting a normal Cure, but it will replace the more powerful spells, such as Curaga and sometimes Cura. All other "light" spells will be weakened, as well.

Dark mages, on the other hand, are getting stronger. Never have they felt so invigorated. All that pent-up energy needs to go somewhere - let's just hope that it doesn't do more bad than good.

Due to all of the recent drama, the Dream Festival was postponed, and has been rescheduled upon the King's return to the Castle for Friday, May 27th.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com
There is a sudden rise in the number of Heartless this week.

Dark storm clouds are gathering on Atlantica's horizon. They will gradually be moving closer during the week, to cover the entire sky. Ray, Lesley, and Eliphas's attempts to neutralize and divert the Miasma may be working, but it is very slow, very tiring work.

Fights and wars are excruciatingly brutal as of late. No one is showing an inkling of mercy for their enemies, and as such, the number of casualties from any sort of encounter rises drastically.

Some people may start seeing hallucinations soon. It's nothing too bad, at this point, mostly happening when a person is very tired or just woke up. Please note that this will not happen to everyone.

Light mages (as defined in this post) aren't feeling so hot about now. Something's got them more tired than they should be, even if it's only a slight change, regardless of sleep habits. They're also feeling a mite under the weather.

Dark mages (as defined in the same post as above) are still feeling fine.

Mixed/elemental mages will be getting some headaches, but it's nothing that they can't deal with as they usually do.
[identity profile] wrfm-mods.livejournal.com

Game Updates

Heartless continue to get stronger. Shadows and Soldiers, while still easy to find, are not as common as they used to be amongst the stronger breeds.

It's becoming much more common to witness someone turning into a Heartless in the streets of Atlantica. Cue mass panic.

Fights are starting to break out over nothing all over the multiverse.

Wonderland reappears on the world map this week. However, anyone visiting the world will notice that things aren't the way they should be there. Heartless roam freely; no one even seems to notice them, let alone attack or run from them. Nothing is as cheerful or colorful as it should be, except for the natives' eyes: they've all turned gold, and their skin has taken on a purple tinge. It's as if the world was from a nightmare.

Some mages are starting to feel sick. It's nothing too bad at this time, though. Light mages - anyone who knows Cure, Light, Faith, Reflect, Esuna, or any variation thereof - will be the only ones really affected by this. Dark mages, on the other hand - those that know Dark, Gravity, Slow, Stop, Sleep, Poison, or variation thereof - are feeling great. Mages with general elemental knowledge will not be affected by this too much, aside from maybe a headache or nausea. The state of mages with mixed knowledge will be determined by the mage's affinity with magic - whichever category your best spells fall under, that is primarily how you will be feeling.

Sleep has been added to the magic list, along with a description of Scan. You can find that here.

Aqua, Terra, Master Xehanort, Kairi, and Sora are available for apping.
