NOT DEAD!

Ladies and gentleman!

I have no idea what the hell happened over the past week. First a Heartless inursion, and then I got sucked down a hole, and then I woke up in this big dark weird city thingy.

Then I got lost. Oh, so, very lost. I have no idea what happened.

Eventually though, there was this bright light, and I was back in my office. So, rather than do the responsible thing and start a report for my superiors, I passed the hell out. So sue me, I was tired. Drooling on the keyboard because I've fallen asleep is very uncomfortable, I speak from experience here.

Then when I wake up, I find myself not in my own damn apartment but in the middle of a <i>forest.</i>

I did not go to sleep in a forest.

I'm somehow used ot the whole worldshift thing, but why does it have to happen in my sleep?!

I can only imagine the amount of e-mail back on my computer, and how many more reports I'll have to do on this...

Pay Day!

Well folks! It's the fifteenth!

That means, I get paid today! And you know what else?

I've no idea what to spend it on. Normally, I just put this money away into savings, but recently, I've moved into a new apartment! Two streets over from Rainbow's End, there's a building with red brick, as opposed to the normal white washed stone with thatch that's popular around here. I've already got my stuff in there. I have a room on the second floor. And a room on the first floor is being rented out as my 'office'. As much as I may hate to admit it, it's going to be useful. Especially seeing as you people generate paperwork by doing pretty much anything besides breathing.

On a less office-work from hell note, this means I'm going to throw an apartment warming/Birthday party! Alcohol may actually be consumed, as I'm turning 21! Yay, for imbibing a substance known to inhibit decision making!

And no, this isn't just an attempt to get around the rather heavy and sour mood everyone's been in. I have a place to live that isn't a dormitory, my parent's house, or some one else's house. I'm really turning twenty one. One of the Air Force mottos is 'Work Hard, Play Hard'. Also, does anyone know what the local laws on fireworks are?

((OOC, 21 in ten days. Just in time to be perfectly sober getting on an airplane. Well, if I can't have a chance to go out and get drunk with friends on my 21st, I might as well simulate it. This way, I'll remember what happened,  unlike a friend of mine who turned 21 and still has no idea what happened after 8pm that night.))

So... between this, that, the other thing, CDC's, PCS-ing, paperwork, and a lot of other work, I'm posting here, again.

And I'm back in the Garden.

No, I'm not allowed to tell you how. But, I'm sure you can guess, given that I'm in the Air Force just how this happened anyway.

I'm about to trawl the archive to catch up on stuff, but is there anything really important I need to be aware of, right off?

Oh, yeah,

I've still got this Gun blade. Even though I've now got legitimate ownership of it, I still know nothing of sword play. Or gun play. Or Gun Blade play. Or whatever it's called in this case. So, does anyone know one would go about acquiring lessons for this thing, or even how I should maintain the thing?

EDIT Trawling done. Does the great cosmos not know how to stay out of trouble or something? Or is this constant struggle for survival a normal thing?

OOC: Yeah, I'm just going to say that at some point during this time, I actually bought the Gun Blade from the Academy. Which still leaves me with no real idea on how to use it, other than 'Swing, aim, shoot, pray'. And now, back to trawling.

A merry Christmas to you all!  I'd really like to thank who ever came up with Skype, so I could at least see my folks today. My first Christmas away from home, and I'd never have thought I'd be spending it on another planet. Which reminds me of something. Do RG natives celebrate Christmas, or is it more of a midwinter festival to them? Do they celebrate the birth of Christ, or do they practice the commercial aspect? Also, there's a sprig of holographic mistletoe above my head. I know you guys like your practical jokes, but just tell me how to get rid of it.

So, after a long time of my computer refusing to work in Radiant Garden, I have finally got internet again. Wee. Consequently, what the hell happened to the time. My computer tells me it's DECEMBER. Not just December, but the 14TH.

Three weeks, gone! What the hell?!

On another note, seems I'm not in massive trouble for going AWOL. Apparently, I've been re assigned to the newly formed 108th Special Tactics And Reconaissance Squadron, or STARS. Yeah, I have no idea how they got away with the name either. And I've got a new job title too. Interplanetary Recon Specialist. Basically, my new job is exactly what it sounds like. As of right now, I'm one of three (THREE) people in the squadron. The other two are Lieutenant Colonel MacDowell, and her secretary.

My orders are to gather intelligence about happenings off-world, scout out possible places to set up shop off-world, and report back on all that. Also, my duties include liasing with you guys and training myself to be able to operate effectively in the larger universe.

So. Yeah. It come with a pay-raise at least.

Incidentally, they somehow managed to ship all my stuff here. No, I don't know how they did it either. One minute I get a call, the next there's a large green crate next to me with all my assorted crap in it. And I kinda need a place to stay. Does anyone have a room open, or any idea where that embassy, if indeed it does exist, is?
[identity profile] shaderic.livejournal.com

Warning, the next paragraph is not suited for minors and people sensitive to swearing.

What the fuck just happened? I mean it, what the fuck just happened?!  One minute, I'm just spending some time relaxing after work, the next, I'M FLUSHED DOWN A COSMIC TOILET, THROUGH THE FLOOR OF MY OWN DORM ROOM, AND TURNED INTO FISH.

I. HAVE. GILLS.

And, apparently, whatever force of nature saw fit to play polymorph, waterproofed my laptop. For which I am immensely grateful, however this does not change the fact that I'm typing with fins. God only knows WHY my fin finger are able to do this, but that's neither here nor there.

I've already sent an e-mail off to my supervisor, explaining the situation. I'm not sure whether he's going to call me crazy, or just say I'm lying. Either way, help.

I need to be back at work in two days, or I'm gonna be AWOL. Which, for those of you who don't know, is VERY FUCKING BAD. Also, judging by the presence of the other talking fish, I'm waaay out of my travel radius.

So... Ummm... Can some one come pick me up?

Well, it's that time of year again. Damn, but time flies. Hard to believe that it's almost November.

Anyway, no interesting news, other than a layer of fog last night thick enough to cut with a knife. But, with halloween coming up, it got me wondering something.

Do other Worlds celebrate our holidays? I mean, Halloween Town is kind of obvious, but what about Twilight Town? Do some cultural events transcend worlds? Does/did Traverse celebrate some holidays we don't? If you think about it, there's a lot we don't know, and just sort of take for granted.

Then, there's the matter of Samhain. From what little I know of the occult, barriers between the land of the living and the land of the dead are supposed to be weaker, right? What does this do to inter-world travel, if anything?

Well, that's enough of the serious stuff. I have the night off, even though I'm not planning anything more exciting then some time relaxing. Monday night kicks off a base-wide excercise, so I'm gonna pretty busy, then. Gotta get in as much relaxation as I can, mean time.

But, what about you guys? I can't be the only one thinking that this snuck up on me. Apart from Seph, anyway. That wasn't funny man. Not  at all.

So, without further ado, here's this week's top rumor chart!

The most recent update on the AF vs Navy fight for who get's jurisdiction off world says that the Navy has the edge. They want to try and field big-ass gummiships capable of operating for the longterm, with minimal support, using them as mobile command centers and bases. This is getting some support behind it, despite how enormously expensive it would be to build these things. I think the proposed name for this type of craft is Waltz-class. I think, anyway.

Next up, the Navy's proposed Waltz class. Think something like Space Battleship Yamato, and you'll be on the right track. For those of you who've not heard of it, linkage to an appropriate youtube video will be provided.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM_s4bKUL_Q
And here's Isao Sasaki singing the original opening in his incredibly manly tones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXEiMOFth7g&feature=related
... Also, just to let you all know, I haven't seen this show either. But this man's voice... *Manly Tears*

And wrapping up this week's news, Colonel McDowell, who's spearheading the organization of the AF's attempts to get g-space jurisdiction is coming to McGowan AFB to consult with the base commander about logistics concerning interplanetary travel. There's also a 'briefing' planned about getting Airmen excited about the new role the base could be playing if we get jurisdiction. There's usually at least a little Q&A planned for these things, so if any of you have any questions you want me throw out there, toss em in. I might not get called on, and I probably won't get the chance to ask more than one question, but hey. This is an interesting opportunity.

Anywho, It's late/early for me. That means bedtime. Catch you all later folks.

Well, I was running during PT this morning, and hating with my gut (Actually, mostly my lungs, but my gut was involved) when I struck about an interesting thought. I asked Yuffie the other day about Ninja Skills. And didn't get a response. Considering I was asking a ninja, this is reasonable. I was going to ask her more about them, because hey, ninjas are awesome. Anyone who says otherwise is a pirate.

But, I'm getting off topic again. The point is, I'm wondering how magic ties into physical skills. Because you know, I can't just throw down a smoke bomb and disapear, or run up buildings. There's more than mortal strength involved. It might not be magic. It could be ki. If it's chakra, I will find a copy of Naruto and burn it,  but that's still a possibility. Hell, SORA CLEAVED BUILDINGS at the end of KHII. Did the Keyblade help? Probably. But as any physics course can tell you, you have to use energy to get energy. I'm assuming that they're inputing some unknown thing, that I'll call magic until further notice, to help them output more force, or achieve effects that should be impossible.

Of course, this difference in force output could be ascribed to unknown physiological differences too. For all I know, the people of RG have denser musculature as a result of some mineral in the water. Or, it could be that the very physics of other worlds allow for greater suspension of 'reality' as we know it, enabling feats beyond what you and I consider normal human ability. The reduced power of magic on earth seems to support this theory. However, until I can compare something 'physical' it is entirely possible that it just applies to magic.

Once we get past the basic metamagical-physics(?) of the issue, we hit the bits I consider more interesting. Implementation of 'Reinforcement' magic. It is entirely likely that different worlds have different variations of this technique, creating a unique plethora of ways to enhance oneself. Pursuit of all of these, or even a decent chunk would be something worthy of a lifetime of study.

Then, we get into the 'skills'. These are things that by all rights, should be impossible, but like magic, work anyway.  I'm calling them skills rather than spells, because they're what happens when Leon's sword does that glowy thing, and Yuffie's shuriken flies around, and come back. Are these things the crystallization of years of training and refinement of techniques, or are they accomplished more through force of will and magic?

Furthermore, is there a limitation to what can be accomplished via 'Reinforcement'? With enough time, skill, and training, could one become a literal super-man? Or, is this just what it sounds like, something that merely Reinforces that which is already there?

Drifting further off-topic, how far can magic be pushed? Song is an accomplished caster of Dream spells, and Merlin in the games is at very least capable of levitation and crafting a Bag of Holding, to say nothing of Ansem's accomplishments, or even Ren's attempting to recreate an entire world. The more I learn about magic, the more it seems like people put mental limits on what it can and can't do.

While we are not the masters of the True Magics from the Nasuverse (yet), there is no reason not to try and achieve impossible. Magic is limited, so far as I can tell, by only your imagination, and what you dare. It's a wondrous and terrifying realization.

And after spending fourty five minutes typing, I wonder if most of you have realized this.

TLDR, Ninja's are awesome. How do they do their tricks? Also, Magic is scary awesome.

So, hello again.

As some of you may have heard, I'm actually in the USAF.

I've kinda been hearing some odd rumors for the past couple of weeks, and for the most part, they're rumors. Probably. I don't know. As things stand, they don't compromise security or any active operations in anyway... That I know of.

So, because it shouldn't be important, and might not even be true, I can share some of it with you.

Also, as you all probably guessed, they're rumors about weird things. As in... well, I don't what to call it. Multiversal stuff?
Let's just say they're things you may find relevant.

First up on the grapevine, is the Great Gummi Custody Battle. The Airforce is arguing with the Navy on who gets jurisdiction, out in your guy's neck of the woods. This is kind of important, but it's basically politics. Yeah, it's gonna shape the future. But for now, it's basically bickering. No matter what though, this'll probably be something you're gonna want to keep an eye on, anyway. I think the Air Force currently has the edge, but I wouldn't count the Navy out just yet.

Next, the establishment of a base off-world... And I just felt like I read something out a Star Gate script. Anyway, this is something that's gonna depend on who get the shiny gummi-space permission slip. I've heard some spots suggested, Twilight Town, Traverse, Disney Castle, Radiant Garden. Well, I don't think that last one's there right now, but I've heard some one's organizing something to fix that. How's that going anyway?

Third big rumor, and I only heard this one recently. Dedicated anti-Heartless units. Special Forces tasked with hunting creatures of Darkness. I wouldn't sink alot of thought into this one. It's probably just some one blowing smoke. But, I'd listen for gun-fire and be careful if I were you guys, ok?

Here's an especially weird one for you guys, though: Apparently some general is organizing a Joint Forces Magi-Unit. In terms of credibility, I'd put this rumor above Area 51, but below Nessie. I mean, I'd start to take it seriously if it was going to be an Army, or Marine unit, but a Joint one? It's hard to get solid cooperation between services sharing a BASE, and who's jobs have them working together closely. Even then, they're still different units. A single JOINT unit? Oi, the paperwork snafu's alone would give people head aches, nevermind the culture clashing.

And to close up this little bit of rumor mongering, there's talk about modding the F-35 to be able to hand gummi-space. I doubt this one too. You  don't want to know how much money's already been sunk into development of the F-35. I mean, later they might make another model of it that CAN do G-space, but they're kind of behind schedule already. They need to finish the tweaking so that they can the fully functioning version ready for mass production. Then they can worry about modding it once they have it going.

Anyway, that's pretty much everything interesting that I can tell you guys. Thoughts on any of this?
((OK, Rumors are rumors. I've talked with the Mods a little bit about some of them, but we never made plans.  So, these may be true. Or, they might not be. They're rumors, after all.))E

Um, hey there?

I'm, um, sort of confused. You see, I tend to ignore the news. Unless it's videogame releases, in which case, I know people who keep me informed.

But, you see, when I heard about KH being real, I thought it was some sort of publicity stunt at first. Then a friend of mine went missing, and some stuff happened. It's a long story, ending with brutal application of a large bottle of laundary detergent. A large mess too, but that's beside the point.

So, following a long string of links, advice, and general wandering about the internet, I ended up here.

What I guess I'm trying to say is: OK, so KH is real. WTF. I know I'm out of touch, but to miss this? Where the hell was I that 'Reality' ended up alot more subjective without my notice? What the hell happened? What's going on? WHY ARE THERE NOW REGS ON ALIENS IN MY AIRMAN'S MANUAL!?

Ok, and given that apparently we knew the future, how the hell did we screw destiny over this time?

... Pardon my coarse language. Live Journal is not my first port of call on the internet. Normally, I hit up a gaming/anime forum. But seeing as THIS particular white whale swam past us unnoticed, I decided to branch out.

Um... And if you all don't mind, I heard that some people learned magic here. As totally ridiculous as that may seem... can I hear more info about that too?
