Uh, hey, Calum.

I know this isn't exactly the best time, but... I'd kind of like to talk to you, if I can. Y'know, like last time? No threats to your safety unless you threaten mine - that sort of thing. I've just... got some questions.

[ softly ] You shouldn't have picked him if you didn't want anyone to interfere.

He is the current owner of a book that I used to have in my possession. It is not so much a matter of "picking" him than having extraneous circumstances work that way.

What's it got to do with your... possessing him? Does it have some weird Horcrux-type magic that lets you come back and take over the new owner's body?

[sounds amused] Of course not. Nothing is ever that simple, Miss Ray.

So, what's all this about killing people?

It's both threat and warning, neither of which are made lightly. Any of you try to stop me or interfere, I will kill you.

[ deep breath. voice is just kinda flat and sounds defeated ]

What if... one of us tried to help you? What then? Would you kill them, too?

I've had my share of betrayals in the past, Miss Ray - forgive me if I don't willingly look for more.

[ still with that flat voice ] Yet you're perfectly willing to accept someone who tried to kill you.

You are an interesting person, Miss Ray, and I admire your determination. But I hardly accept an "ally" without due reason.

I'll tell you this, at least. I don't betray someone unless I have good reason to, or a personal vendetta against them. I've got neither when it comes to you, only incentive to help, even if I don't know what will help. [ sighs ] Besides, Jojo's my friend. I don't want to lose him just because you've taken his body.

I said it before and I'll say it again: if it's possible, I want to help you get a body of your own so neither he nor you will have to deal with all this anymore.

'Sides, you fascinate me. I try not to off people that manage that.

The reason why betrayal cuts so deep is because one never expects it. Promises and being warned aforetime mean nothing in the end. However... [seems to be thinking about this]

Some of you keep saying you want to help, to separate the two of us. That is beyond your power and beyond my willingness. And without the latter, nothing will come of it anyway. Perhaps, if those years hadn't passed in Narnia, I may have been more willing. But the boy's connection to Lilith has given him something that another body could not possibly give.

[pauses as if he is going to say something more, but doesn't]

[ long-suffering sigh ] Yeah. Yeah, I know. I just... I dunno.

I'm not saying I wouldn't betray you. Hell, if it gets to the point where I have no choice, or I have good reason to do so, I will betray you. I'm just saying that I don't have reason now and that I don't expect to anytime soon.

I'm... really sorry to hear that. But even if that's true, it doesn't mean I can't try to help somehow.
